19 March is a holiday of Russian and Belarussian undersea fleet. (106 years – 19 March 2012). A little bit before that remarkable day group of people presenting the Russian and Belarussian patriotic marine community “Morskoe bratstvo – nerushimo” (“Marine community is indestructible”) arranged the action “Rodina morskikh geroev” (“The motherland of sea heroes”) in Vitebsk and Smolensk. On the 14 March submariners spoke about their military service and discussed the future plans of the developing of this organization.
In the beginning of the meeting, the coordinator and the creator of this project Arseny Kritsky gave an inspirational speech: “The previous campaign in honour of the Day of Marines (also known as Naval infantry) was called “Naval fleet remembers everybody and so me too”. We delivered an anchor as gift to Minsk from Saint Petersburg. This is a symbol of the seaman’s rescue. It is the same as the cross for Orthodox. The citizens of the North marine capital did a lot for Russian-Belarussian friendship, especially the friendship between seamen. The project “Morskoe bratstvo nerushimo” is developing these days and I hope that the next year there will be the opening ceremony in Sevastopol Park of the monument of Belarussian seamen. When the day of Marines took place, we discovered that the Naval Infantry is tightly connected to Belarussian land.”
The placards that were on the walls of the conference hall were connected to the only theme – the theme of memory, friendship, and heroism. There was something like a Memory Corner: the candles, sailors’ striped vests, sailors’ caps and the books about the Navy. Among these books the was a book of shipwrecks about the sailors who served with dignity, but who died, they were Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians.
Vitebsk’s land is the motherland of two great seamen – Egor Tomko (the hero of Soviet Union and the vice-admiral) and Samuil Bogorad (the hero of Soviet Union and the captain). The captain Bogorad is the hero of The Baltic, the captain of the moto-torpedo boat. He is the hero and the pride of Saint Petersburg and Kroonstad. The vice-admiral Tomko is the coordinator of the school of submariners, the commander of the North fleet, he did a deed and rescued a crew of the ship where there was a serious accident. He had a radiation dose, but he survived.
Many Belarusians served in Navy, ten years ago there were 250 000 seamen. Moreover, it could be a maritime power.
“It is hard to talk about submariners, - remarked Kritsky in his speech, - due to the fact that there many victims. Due to the great confidentiality of the service in Navy, that part of Belarussian history has just become arising. The one of three submariners is Belarussian. When we arranged a campaign called “Motherland of naval heroes” in Russia on the submarine C-189, there were lots of people, who loved Belarus. They presented us a memorial sign “Ten years of “Kursk” shipwreck”. Among visitors there was Mother of the “Kursk” vice-captain Dudko”.
At the conference, there also was a deputy administrator of the committee of Union’s state in Minsk Pavel Kuzemchak, who highlighted the importance of friendship of nations in developing our countries. Submariners, who served in Atomflot, told a lot about peculiarities of such kind of service and about their co-submariners.
Vladimir Voroshin, who was a captain of nuclear submarine, said to us: “I am really proud that I served with Egor Tomko. In Miory one of the streets is named in his honour. In Belarus there are many people who are connected to the sea. Once on the international congress I asked an English admiral: “Do you know where Belarus is?” He answered affirmatively. Then I asked him again: “Do you know that this small country is a sea power country?” He answered affirmatively again, but then he added: “But just with a long land border”.
Among the sailors, there are lots of believers, especially Orthodox. For instance, in Russia there are lots of “marine temples”. Every time seamen ships out, they are exposed to potential hazard: storm and engine break down, faults in navigation system. Even then non-believer asks the God for help.
Yury Egoshin claims: “ I am not really a believer, but every time I shipped out I took an Orthodox cross with me, even if I wasn’t sure that it would help. It was a kind of a tradition. I was in good mood before shipping out, because I thought that nothing would go wrong and small accidents happened everywhere.
And particularly the faith that the things will go well is the God trusting. The sea doesn’t divide people according to their confessions and etc., vice versa, the marine service unite the seamen and create good friendship and urge to love the motherland.
Vladimir Dronov, rear admiral and hero of Russian Federation, lives in Saint Petersburg, but his homeland is settlement Begomol in Vitebsk region, that’s why he has a lot in common with Belarus. Among his rewards there Orders “For personal Courage” and “For Service to the Homeland in Armed Forces of the USSR” the third grade. It comes as no surprise that both Russians and Belarusians say about marine heroes: “They are our heroes!”
Vladimir tells: “I am Catholic, but I am a parishioner of Orthodox temples because our patron is Nicolaos the Wonderworker. I attend Saint Nicolas Naval Cathedral because it is the main temple in Saint Petersburg. Father Bogdan is a person who loves people. But it is worth of mentioning that I am not too religious. People turn to God when they are in despair or in hazards. I am no exception.
Krytsky is a beliver and he thinks: “The rebirth of Orthodoxy is not by accident. When Peter the Great approved a design of the emblem of Saint Petersburg, there was Orthodox cross. I always turn to God. I don’t have an opportunity to follow all church rules, but I believe in God. He is always with us, he helped me a lot and it was as a wonder. If God exists, there is nothing impossible. For instance, when we were designing the monument of naval servicers, we couldn’t find the proper one, but one night I had a dream of a huge anchor. In two days I was told that the same anchor had been found by naval special operations forces. That was an anchor of a huge ship of Peter the Great times.
The presence of rear admiral Dronov could be a wonder too. He called me a few days before the conference and accepted the invitation.
Someone could say that it’s just a coincidence, but there are moments when you can do nothing and so you just need to turn to God and everything will turn to you in a good way. When I turn to God I pray as as I can because I don’t learn the prayers by heart. The victory always found me with the help of God. I felt me as a winner even if everything was against me. The only thing that we need from God is a morale, competitive spirit, not finances or other things. And I hope that this year the monument in the honour of the seamen in Sevastopol Park in Minsk will be constructed and God will help us to do it, because people must know their heroes.”

The three-meter anchor powerful in ton that had been taken by sea special troops and divers from a bottom of the Gulf of Finland will become a gift to Minsk from the Russian seamen. On November 26 the anchor of an era of Peter I, which was waiting in the wings for three centuries, will arrive with an escort of delegations from St. Petersburg, Murmansk, the Kaliningrad region, other cities of naval glory - participants of the Russian-Belarusian project "A sea brotherhood - is indestructible!".
- the 300-year anchor will become the main element of future monument "To seamen of Belarusia from grateful Russia". It is planned that such pedestal will be set in one of the picturesque places of Minsk. The monument has to become a place of traditional meetings of veterans of fleet - Belarusians, Ukrainians, Russians. - Such close prospect is predicted by the author and the coordinator of the project "A sea brotherhood - is indestructible!", Petersburger, the staff sergeant of a stock of marines of Russia Arseny Kritsky. - So far the find from a bottom of Baltic we will establish in a festive atmosphere near the DOSAAF training center. This gift to Minsk we called "A key from all seas".
This statement is proven by figures and the facts: Belarusians, in particular, battled on legendary "Varangian", made a third of staff of submarines of the Soviet Union. 200 thousand Belarusians served in different time in parts of Navy of the USSR. 30 admirals - natives of Belarus - put their names in the chronicle of military fleet. In Minsk in the 1950th the first Navy training center VMF was created. In the Soviet years the aircraft carrying cruiser "Minsk" was plying on the Pacific Ocean, and now the landing ship, which carries the name of the capital of Belarus, keeps the watch on Baltiysk fleet.
"The fleet remembers all, so, me as well!" - this slogan of the Minsk action confirms that the enthusiasts from public organizations of Belarus and Russia (among them - the All-Russian organization of marines "Typhoon", the Belarusian union of military seamen, DOSAAF, the Belarusian fund "Avhan's Memory") intend to keep the old traditions. The maximum program, the main idea of the project "A sea brotherhood - is indestructible! » -is the development of the Russian-Belarusian "sea" program and the creation of fleet of the Union State.
The deputy administrator of the Minsk representation of Standing Committee of the Union State Pavel Kuzemchak assured the journalists that initiatives of veterans of the Navy will be given the various support. One of 5the stages of a cooperation of allied structures and the project "The sea brotherhood - is indestructible!" there will be an assistance in the organization of the school classes of naval cadets in Belarus in order to make the dreams of the Belarusian boys, who are dreaming of the sea, come true.
In addition to this, for future seamen, and also for "old salts" in the cultural and historical complex "Stalin's Line" a military and historical reconstruction "Where we - there a victory!", devoted to Day of marines, will be arranged. Such holiday in the neighborhood of the capital of Belarus won't seem artificial at all, moreover,it probably will become the beginning of a good tradition. The first "the regiment of sea soldiers" -of the count Fedor Golovin - was created on the 27th (16th - on old style) of November in 1705 in Grodno. In the ranks of liberators of Minsk from fascists in the 1944th there were also the marines - from the 110th shooting division which had been called "a division of seamen". And in the 1963rd on the basis of the 336th motor-shooting regiment, which was hastily thrown from the 120th Minsk division to Baltiysk, the 336th separate regiment of marines was formed. So the foundation for the modern marines of Russia was formed in Minsk. Such facts from the general history - is an excellent pledge of future cooperation.

The military-patriotic action «Marine Stalingrad» took place in Minsk, Gelendjik, Vitebsk, Moscow and Novorossisk, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of exemption of Novorossisk and Taman Peninsula from German invaders.
The initiators of the action were: State Military Historical and cultural center of the Russian Government, Union State Permanent Committee and the Eurasian Academy of television and radio. The action was started off in Minsk with opening an impressive monument to the Belorussian sailors, who served from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok, from The Black sea to The White sea. The monument is topped by the anchor, presented by the Russian sailors to the Belorussian ones in the era of Peter The Great. By the initiation of the Belorussian veteran seamen, there was created the Sacred Cross, in memory of sailors’ heroism, produced in Vitebsk and presented in Moscow. After that, the delegation headed to Gelendjik to transport the gift to Novorossisk from there by a military boat.
As usual, there was sea storm the latest days. Among the members of administration, sailors, citizens, there were army cadets, at the central square as well, who were asked, what they were waiting for. However, even the youngest participants of the action distinctively knew, that the Sacred Cross, dedicated to liberators was going to arrive.
The boat was met by the delegation, consisted of the priest, sailors and the military orchestra. Despite the fact, that that was a daunting task, seamen managed to put the 6 meter Cross over at the Primorskaya square, accompanied by the sounds of the patriotic tunes. At the beginning of the meeting the author and head of the action, Arseniy Kritskiy, delivered an opening speech. He was talking, without words, learnt by heart, about the primary things, about the need to remember everybody, killed over Novorossisk, otherwise we would not have the future. The Sacred Cross was dedicated to George Cholostyakov, commander of the Novorossisk’s fleet during The Second World War, the embodiment of heroism, honour and courage.
Indeed, the name of this commander is an important part of the story of military Novorossisk. Three months later than the beginning of the war, vice-admiral Cholostyakov took command of the naval station in Novorossisk, which became the main reliance of the whole The Black Sea’s fleet for the period of the war. The transport from precipitated Sevastopol and Odessa was coming into force through Novorossisk. Cholostyakov is the author of the plan of the famous Kunikov’s landing , that has not had the analogs all over the world nowadays.
At the end of the meeting mr Kritskiy emphasized the great importance of the giant Sacred Cross, which would be the sign of freedom and memory and protection from all the enemies, visible and invisible.
